Stephen Pollard to edit Jewish Chronicle

<div><p>Author and journalist Stephen Pollard has been appointed as editor of the Jewish Chronicle.</p><p>Pollard, 43, a biographer of former home secretary David Blunkett and blogger on the Spectator's website, takes over from departing editor David Rowan next month.</p><p>Rowan is leaving to launch <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/jun/30/condenast.pressandpublishing">UK edition of US technology magazine Wired for Condé Nast</a>.</p><p>Pollard writes for the Times and the Daily Mail and chairs the European Institute for the Study of Contemporary Anti-semitism.</p><p>The weekly newspaper for the Jewish community has a circulation of 32, 875, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.</p><p>In his new job, Pollard is likely to come into contact with his former employer, Daily Express proprietor Richard Desmond, a prominent benefactor to a number of Jewish charities.</p><p>When Desmond took over the Express, Pollard resigned for a job at the Times in early 2001.</p><p>On his final day at the paper, Pollard wrote <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2001/jan/08/pressandpublishing.dailyexpress">a leader in which the first letters of each sentence spelled out the phrase "Fuck you, Desmond"</a>.
