Storms knock down trees & power lines across CSRA

<div><p><p>Powerful storms moved across parts of the CSRA Friday afternoon, knocking down trees and power lines in Augusta and Columbia County.  Power was out and traffic signals dark on Fury’s Ferry Road near Westlake. </p> <p> There were also reports of trees down in downtown Augusta.  One tree caught on fire when it landed on a live power line. </p> <p> Columbia County Emergency Management director Pam Tucker reports trees down at Winfield Circle, Blanchard Road, Appling-Harlem Highway and Baker Road.  Power is also out in Amherst subdivisiion and Wymberly, in Columbia County.  A citizen reported an electrical transformer knocked down by a tree on Old Petersburg Road. </p> <p>There was also a report of a downed tree in the 300 block of Telfair that had the street completely blocked in both directions.  And Greene Street heading eastbound was down to one lane near Fourth Street due to another downed tree. <br /> <br /> Georgia Power crews were dispatched to shut off arcing power lines and restore service to several neighborhoods. </p></p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=35590813&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
